India will replace all of the street lights with LED street lights

The Times of India reported and the Indian Electrical Lighting sources and Components Manufacturers Association (ELCOMA) citied that India Joint Urban Development had asked the country’s state government to replace all of the street lights with LED street lights.

There will be 27.5 million street lights replaced with LED street lights, which would cut more than 5,000 megawatts of electricity consumed for India within three years.

The demand was not made until the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) had conducted a survey on the street lights, the survey showed that 80 percent of India streetlight installation is substandard. The pole distance, type and luminaire height and other factors are not taken into account, indicating that the lighting effect is not a single cause for the replacement of street lighting.

The Indian government has appointed Efficiency Energy Services Ltd. (EESL) fund-raising and installation of LED street lights. These traditional street lights will be replaced in phases. EESL has begun to develop a qualification standards of the qualified LED street lighting supplier to ensure quality LED street lights.
